Tum is a competition piece, composed with a pragmatic approach to virtuosity. Embedded in its pitch language are the fingerings that commissioner Katie Liu used for her other solo repertoire and harmonics that were unbroken into her viola. The structure of the work is grounded in my relationship with food and digestion at the time.
